Dr. Allen Latimer recently spoke to the Respiratory Therapy (RT) senior students concerning the interpretation of chest x-rays. Dr. Latimer has served as the medical director for the Respiratory Therapy program for the past 26 years. Recently, Dr. Latimer and his wife gave $10,000 to the WCC Foundation for scholarships for senior Respiratory Therapy students. Respiratory Therapy instructors Judy Harrell and Linda Moore also contribute to the scholarship fund. Dr. Latimer plays an active role in teaching and training of the RT students. In their last semester, RT students accompany Dr. Latimer for 18 hours during his rotation at the hospital and his office. Thanks to Dr. Latimer for giving of his knowledge, experience, and time to the Respiratory Therapy students and program. (Respiratory Care Week Lecture 2010)
Allen Latimer and Haden Ward Guests on Ann Varnum Show
In promoting Respiratory Care Week, Dr. Allen Latimer, Respiratory Therapy medical director, and Respiratory Therapy student Haden Ward appeared on the Ann Varnum Show October 31. Dr. Latimer discussed proper lung care and ways to prevent lung disease. He also shared with Ms. Varnum a new Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy procedure which helps the physician diagnose and treat lung disorders.
Student Haden Ward had an opportunity to share with Ms. Varnum and audience about her experiences as a student in the respiratory therapy program. Haden’s mom, Tammy Ward, is also a student in the WCC Associate Degree Nursing program and will graduate spring 2011. Haden expressed how much she and her mom have enjoyed being students together at Wallace. Haden will graduate fall semester from the respiratory therapy program. Haden plans to specialize with neonates after graduation and her mom Tammy plans to work with patients with mental health disorders.
Dr. Latimer and Haden also discussed with Ms. Varnum the need for respiratory therapy students in this area and what an excellent program Wallace offers. They expressed appreciation for respiratory therapy instructors Linda Moore and Judy Harrell.
